Dowry System in India - A short story of a women's fight against dowry, gender equality & acid attack #StopDowry

2023 UPDATE: Hello Friends, thanks for giving so much love to this post. Back in 2010 when I wrote this post, I haven't expected so much love from every one of you. The story has been enacted in several colleges in India and has been widely appreciated by viewers. It is one of the most read blog posts on my blog with 50K+ reads.

Also, one positive update, in the last decade India has seen an overall reduction in dowry cases and dowry deaths but the battle against dowry would go on till the day the society becomes dowry free.  Thank you so much once again.

Short Story on Dowry System in India

Tuesday, March 30, 2010: Hello friends, I think story and poems are the best way of fighting against any social issues, so I have decided to write few stories against some social issues, I would like to begin it with the Dowry system prevalent in India and other neighbouring countries.
Before beginning with the dowry story, I would like to share some facts and figures so that it can be realized how serious the issue is.

At least 1 woman will die in a dowry related attack in India every hour.

In 2004, Amnesty International reported that at least 15,000 women were being murdered each year in India, in dowry related cases. Other grassroots women’s organizations in India estimate the number to be much higher. The Ahmedabad Women’s Action group for example has estimated that at least 1000 women were killed each year in dowry-related homicides in the state of Gujarat alone.

A touching Poem.

A strong touching poem on “Drink and Drive”. Must read this, and specially if u have that bad habit of drinking and then driving.

I went to a party Mom,

I remembered what you said.

You told me not to drink, Mom,

So I drank soda instead.

I really felt proud inside, Mom,

The way you said I would.

I didn't drink and drive, Mom,

Life in a cage | My experiences at Sayaji Baug Zoo, Vadodara

Hello Visitors,

Yesterday, that is 20th Feb, 2010. I visited Kamati baug (now known as Sayaji Baug Zoo), in Vadodara city.

After a tired  day in the city, suddenly I got this idea to visit Sayaji Baug Zoo at 2.00 PM, so I hired an auto-rickshaw and moved towards the railway station. From railway station, Kamati baug is in nearby area so I took a walk and reached there. (Approx. 1.4 km)

Then i entered the Kamati baug (Garden), as the place was already visited by me in the past it was no wonder for me.. The lush green grass and couples sitting hand in hand soon followed, i kept moving  wondering were sit peacefully. Many couple’s hang out here and i guess this place is a paradise for them.

What is LIFE ???

At age 22- 23 defining life is still very immature thing, but still whatever i have experience of it and what i learned from others about life is what i like to share..

Life is a beautiful gift to every human.. A gift from god to every organism born on this earth and in the unknown corners of this universe..

Life is the period which a living organism lives from birth to death.

Life is a beautiful journey from birth to childhood to youth to old age till death..

Life is breathing, eating, knowledge gathering, earning, sharing, fun, struggling, fighting, behaving and every damn thing a person undergoes..

Help Others- A short story

Just sharing a small short story with a strong moral of helping others, the story is a self created work of my own, and is the original version..
And here it goes like this...

“ I am  a 50 year old men just attended one of my daughter’s marriage and did kanyadan ( A hindu ritual done at the time of marriage which signifies the transfer of all duties and responsibilities of taking care of Girl from girl's parents to the bridegroom's side), my eyes filled up with her memories, hey! though she is not my own daughter but she is not less than my own.. I still remember how she entered in our life.
