Cyclone Tauktae is forming in Arabian Sea | Know the Dates, Location and Speed

May 2021 |  Pre-Monsoon Cyclone - A low-pressure area is forming in the southwest Arabian sea.

The low-pressure area will develop further in the coming 48 hours and could bring good pre-monsoon rains, particularly in Kerala, Karnataka and Goa. The low pressure area might further advance into Cyclone Taukta. The cyclone is expected to hit either  Gujarat coast or Pakistan bringing rains all over the western ghats and Gujarat.

Important dates, location and wind speed possibilities of the cyclone Tauktai / low-pressure system

Date: 15th May 2021. (Forecasts). Cyclone Tauktae is now Type 2 Cyclone

Location of Cyclone: A well-marked low-pressure system would be formed near the Lakshadweep island.

Wind Speed
: The coastal areas of Kerala, Karnataka would see squally winds with speed up to 55 km per hour 



Date: 16th May 2021 (Forecasts): The low pressure system is most likely to be categorized as cyclone Tauktae. 

Location of Cyclone Tauktae: The cyclone would move a little away from the bay and gain further strength with wind speed blowing above 100 kmph near the eye of the cyclone. 

Wind Speed: Mangalore and other coastal areas of Karnataka would see winds blowing at a speed between 50 to 80 mph. Rains are expected across Karnataka coastal areas.


Date: 17th May 2021 (Forecasts): Cyclone Tauktae by now would be a Severe Cyclonic Storm. Based on speed it could be rated as Category 1.

Location of Cyclone Tauktae: The cyclone would continue moving away from the bay thus gaining further strengths with wind speed blowing around 130 kmph near the eye of the cyclone. 

Wind Speed: The coastal areas of Maharashtra and Goa would be most impacted with winds blowing between 50 to 70 mph. The cyclone is expected to bring heavy rains across the coasts including Mumbai, Goregaon, Ratnagiri, Rajapur and Panaji, Goa.


Date: 18th May 2021 (Forecasts): The day of fate. On this day we could get a clear picture possibly that it would head towards Gujarat or Pakistan. By now the Cyclone Tauktae would be a Super Cyclone  Based on speed it could be rated as Category 1.

Location of Cyclone Tauktae: The cyclone would continue moving away from the bay thus gaining further strengths with wind speed blowing around 250 kmph near the eye of the cyclone. The coastal areas of Gujarat and Maharashtra would be on high alert by now with major steps being taken to prevent the disasters.

Wind Speed: The coastal areas of Maharashtra and Gujarat would be windy with wind speed around 50 km per hour. Rains would be seen in Maharashtra and Gujarat.

The cyclone is most likely to strike Pakistan or Gujarat near the Kucch region as per present weather models with a wind speed up to 120 km per hour.

Since it would be too early to predict we are not predicting the cyclone beyond 18th as on now. It seems it would slow down in the sea from 250 kmph to around 100 kmph while moving towards the coast.
